The Uganda Junior Chess Team on Wednesday wheeled off from Entebbe International Airport for Greece.

The team comprised of six girls and three boys is set to take part in the 2023 World School Chess Championships.

The tournament is to be held at Rhodes City in the Dodecanese starting 13th to 23rd April 2023.

Team captain Tandeka expressed the desire to represent the country at the championship.

“We are set to play at the 2023 World school chess championships. The team has been training very well and we all ready to give our best in the tournament” Tandeka who will play in the boys’ U-15 section noted.

The head of the delegation is Melinda Karungi, accompanied by head coach Mathias Ssonko and parents.

The team:

Emmanuel Atukirize (U-11), Jethro Mawejje (U-11) and Shiloh Tandeka (U-15) for the boys. The girls include Aine Atubet (U-11), Talia Atubet (U-9), Zuri Tatiina (U-15), Hailey Nio (U-15), Emmanuel Akot (U-15) and Hannah Mawejje (U-17).
