In a move that promises to make history, the Uganda Cranes, under the umbrella of the Uganda Football governing body, FUFA, are gearing up to face football giants in a series of friendly matches as part of their Centenary Celebrations in 2024. This monumental event marks a century of football excellence since FUFA’s foundation in 1924.

The grand plan, which has been kept under wraps, is said to be the climax and epitome of the FUFA Centenary Celebrations. Sources within the football circles suggest that high-level deliberations have already taken place at FUFA’s executive committee level, with a dedicated committee handling the preparations.

The grand scheme was set into motion in June 2022 when FUFA established the ‘FUFA @100 years Committee.’ Chaired by Rogers Byamukama, the Head of Marketing at FUFA, this committee has been entrusted with planning a series of centenary events that will undoubtedly leave fans on the edge of their seats.

The most exhilarating aspect of this plan is the prospect of the Uganda Cranes facing off against football heavyweights like Brazil and Argentina. While the logistics of such a grand matchup are yet to be finalized, the federation has not limited its options to just these two nations. Football giants such as England, Italy, Germany, Spain, and France are also under consideration.

For Ugandan football enthusiasts, this could be a dream come true. The possibility of witnessing their national team lock horns with international superstars like Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Bukayo Saka has ignited fervor among fans.

Notably, although the Cranes have never officially squared off against Brazil, there’s a memorable chapter in history. In July 2009, the Cranes faced an Alem Brazilian side, triumphing with a resounding 4-1 victory at Nakivubo Stadium, drawing a crowd of over 15,000 spectators. This remarkable victory showcases Uganda’s football prowess, fueling anticipation for the upcoming friendlies.

As the rumor mill suggests, the next step will be to reach out to the football federations of Brazil and Argentina to solidify the details of these ambitious matches. While the grand roadmap remains undisclosed, one thing is certain – the FUFA Centenary Celebrations in 2024 promise to be a historic event that will etch its mark in the annals of football history.

Fans across Uganda are now eagerly awaiting the confirmation of these friendlies, hoping to witness their beloved Cranes take on the world’s best in a celebration of 100 years of football excellence.
